General objectives

The project aims to help European healthcare professionals to deliver efficient preventive intervention on type 2 diabetes.

Strategic relevance and contribution to the public health programme

By developing a European training programme for healthcare professionals on efficient preventive intervention on diabetes, the project will contribute to national and EU efforts to prevent type 2 diabetes in Europe.

Methods and means

Collect scientific evidence on identification of high-risk individuals.
Develop recommendations for efficient lifestyle intervention and for pharmacointervention of type 2 diabetes.
Develop nutritional training aspects for the training of prevention managers.

Expected outcomes period

The project will:
develop intervention standards in European practice-oriented guidelines for diabetes prevention;
develop a European training programme for healthcare professionals to help them deliver preventive intervention;
develop European standards for the assessment of the occurrence of type 2 diabetes and its known risk factors in order to monitor and report systematically these both in the Member States and at the EU level using comparative data;
build a European e-health training portal for prevention managers.
