EPHA is a leading NGO advocating for better health for everyone living in Europe. Our mission is to bring together the public health community to provide thought leadership and facilitate change; to build public health capacity to deliver equitable solutions to European public health challenges, to improve health and reduce health inequalities. Our key role is to promote health in the European Union at the highest levels of policy making across the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council.

80 million people still live in poverty in the EU, and poor living conditions, low income, poor employment conditions and unhealthy diets due to being unable to afford to buy healthy food are all key determinants of health. In addition, many of the key determinants of health lie outside of the control of individual citizens, such as how healthcare systems are managed, how food production in the EU is organized and how trade regulations enable or discourage healthy food choices and how pharmaceutical policies and the cost of medicines are regulated, for example.

EPHA's proposal for an operating grant under a Framework Partnership Agreement covers core operating costs for actions that contribute to the four objectives of the Third Health Programme. EPHA's workplan covers 4 strategic aims: improve overall population health and healthy life years, strengthen European health systems for better patient outcomes and reduced inequalities, and support institutional and policy frameworks that promote health and to strengthen and increase effective public health.

Health in all Policies, prevention-promotion-protection, reducing health inequalities and solidarity are central tenets of EPHA's workplan and are reflected in our approaches to working inter alia on food systems, trade and EU governance. Decreasing health inequalities is a core value that we endeavor to mainstream in all activities. Actions in the 2015 workplan reflect the final year of EPHA’s current strategic plan, and this year will be crucial for setting the 2016 to 2020 strategy.


People with intellectual disabilities (ID) have a wide range of chronic and acute health issues and conditions. In many instances, more frequent and severe symptoms than the general population. They are twice as likely to have significant visual problems and at much younger age and are hardly ever engaged in vigorous physical activity and find it difficult to make themselves understood when speaking with health professionals. The health conditions are may be similar to the general population, the impacts can be greater on those with ID. People with ID experience higher mortality rates as a result of higher rates of cardiovascular diseases. The general objective of SOEEF is to provide year around training and competition as well as well being and health promotion initiatives for athletes across the EU 28.Furthermore the goal is to expand the network of trained coaches and health care professionals through training model, seminars and meetings. The ultimate goal is to engage more athlete, families, service providers and further stakeholders into Special Olympics programs to guaranty the growth of sport, well being and health opportunities throughout the EUan as well as have positive impact on health and well being of people with ID in general.The Special Olympics Health Program "Healthy Athletes" offers free of charge Health screenings and intervention for children and adults with an intellectual disabilities (ID). People with ID are often excluded from quality health care and/or have difficulties to find qualified health care providers. HA provides also comprehensive training opportunities for health care providers, families that have members with an ID, medical students and other health care experts.


AIDS Action Europe (AAE) is a comprehensive NGO network in the field of HIV/AIDS with over 440 network members and partners from all over Europe and Central Asia. It is a unique player with substantial added value for European policy making and programme implementation.The leading principle of AIDS Action Europe’s multiannual Framework Partnership Agreement 2015 – 2017 is continuity and innovation. The programme described in this proposal will follow up on achievements since the start of AAE in 2004 and will extend its agenda with activities aimed at optimising the EU’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and strengthening the AAE network. In the area of policy, AAE will keep its focus on the coordination of the EU Civil Society Forum on HIV/AIDS and on contributing to the EU Think Tank, so that the voices of AAE members and other members of civil society are heard.In the field of linking and learning, AAE will continue investing in its Clearinghouse, as a database for exchanging good practice and sharing information. Website, social media, newsletters and mailings will remain key means to disseminate news and information. AAE strives for innovation and is determined to improve communication, linking and learning, and exchange of good practice: - The Clearinghouse is of great value for AAE members and beyond; it will be re-launched in the coming project period. Its contents will be re-structured to intensify linking and learning. Furthermore, it will be transformed into an interactive platform for information and opinion exchange.- The AAE website will be re-designed in order to improve information distribution troughout the region.- The bilingual communication efforts will be intensified to reach member organisations in Russian speaking countries more effectively.- Consultancies, working groups and project development meetings will provide opportunities to address emerging issues at country, regional and European level and to stimulate European cooperation.

