Soa Aids Nederland (SANL), host organisation of the network AIDS Action Europe (AAE), enhances scale and quality of the Dutch contribution to the (inter)national response to HIV/AIDS/STIs.
AAE’s mission: to unite civil society to work towards a more effective response to the HIV epidemic in Europe, striving for better protection of human rights and universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support. Aiming for a reduction of health inequalities focussing on key vulnerable populations and Eastern Europe/Central Asia.
AAE uses its status as regional network of ICASO (International Council of AIDS Service Organizations) to further its mission. We vision a world where people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS can enjoy life free from stigma, discrimination, and persecution and have access to prevention, treatment and care.
ICASO`s and AAE`s guiding principles:
- Central role of people, communities and their organizations in developing & implementing policies & programs;
- Right of community-based organization to determine its own priorities, methods of organization and programs, and to have those choices respected;
- Ensuring protection and fulfilment of human rights of all people living with, affected by, and vulnerable to HIV;
- GIPA principle: greater involvement of people living with,and affected by HIV;
- Ensuring that needs of women, young people and children are addressed, and that they are guaranteed an equal voice;
- Non-discrimination and non-stigmatization on the grounds of HIV status,gender, religion, race, sexual orientation,etc;
- Removing fear, coercion and deception from all programmes;
- Ensuring that relevant international programs involve partnerships among those living with and affected by HIV.
AAE’s core values: transparency, inclusiveness, MIPA (meaningful involvement of people living with HIV), a human rights based approach, networking culture and accountability. Our mission is communicated through websites, leaflets, work plans, annual reports.


NIGZ as a WHO collaborating centre for school health promotion is responsible for the management of the Schools for Health in Europe network – SHE network. The SHE network focuses on making school health promotion a more integral part of policy development in the health sector and the education sector in the EU member states. SHE encourages each member state to develop and implement a national policy on school health promotion.
SHE uses a positive concept of health and well-being and acknowledges the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The SHE core values are equity, sustainability, inclusion, empowerment and democracy. SHE recognizes the whole school approach to health and active participation of all members of the school community. Health promoting schools support schools in achieving their educational and social goals. Healthy students learn better, healthy teachers work better. They are active agents in the community for strengthening social capital and health literacy.
The SHE network has a strong foundation in its precursor - the European Network of Health Promoting Schools (ENHPS)-, founded in 1992 by WHO Euro, the Council of Europe and the European Union, with its experience of developing and sustaining health promoting schools. It has demonstrated progress on an international level with emphasizing the role of schools in improving the health of children and young people, both in EU policy papers and statements (such as the European Pact for Mental Health and Wellbeing, the EU white paper on nutrition, overweight and obesity). On a national level the SHE network has demonstrated progress in establishing and implementing health promoting schools as part of the core work of schools in a number of member countries and has made progress in increasing the cooperation between the health sector and the education sector.




EURORDIS is a patient-driven alliance of Patient Organisations (POs) and individuals active in the field of rare diseases (RD). It represents the voice of an estimated 29 million citizens in the EU.

EURORDIS mission is to build a strong pan-European community of POs and People Living With RD (PLWRD), to be their voice at the European level and to fight against the impact of RD on their lives.

To this end, EURORDIS undertakes activities on behalf of its members, notably in favour of:

• Empowering RD patient groups
• Advocating RD as a public health priority
• Raising public awareness on RD (national and international levels)
• Improving access to information, treatment, care and support for PLWRD, including support to families
• Improving quality of life
• Encouraging good practices in relation to these issues
• Promoting scientific and clinical research on RD
• Developing treatments and drugs for people with RD

EURORDIS plays a pivotal role in the definition and implementation of the EU strategy on RD (EC Communication, Dec.2008 and Council Recommendations, June 2009).

