General objective:

This Joint Action will support the national activities needed to build the capacity for organizing Health Examination Surveys (HES) in 14 countries. The Partners will work in collaboration with the European Health Examination Survey Reference Centre (EHES RC) funded by a separate Tender. The aim is to plan and prepare for a full-scale HES in the 14 countries, and to pilot the fieldwork, data collection, assessment and reporting. The full-size HESs will provide comparable information on major chronic disease risk factors and disease prevalence.

Specific objectives:

1. To prepare national HES plans for the Partners of the Joint Action.
2. To prepare detailed sampling description for the piloting countries.
3. To complete the national HES pilot field work.
4. To transfer pilot survey data from Partner countries to the EHES RC and assessment of the data.
5. To share the national experience among the Partners.
6. To plan the reporting of the national results of the full-size HES, and report the results of the national pilot HES.

The development of effective methods of engaging with workplaces, and their workforces, to raise awareness and bring about organizational and individual change that lead to safer alcohol consumption, and thus a reduction in alcohol-related absenteeism, presenteeism and injuries. This will be achieved through the development and dissemination of a practical and robust cross-cultural tool-kit able to support the delivery of workplace-based interventions that will bring about safer alcohol consumption amongst the European workforce. The project will produce a report identifying best practice and recommendations for European, national, regional and local policy-makers. The project will improve the health and well-being of European citizens, contribute to the objectives of the Lisbon agenda, and enable workplaces to mitigate the potential negative consequences of the economic recession on alcohol-related harm.

The overall purpose of the project is to generate operational knowledge to better understand the role and impact of Community Based Voluntary Counselling and Testing services (CBVCTs) across Europe, as well as to study the use of innovative strategies based on new technologies and social networks, to increase early HIV/STI diagnosis and treatment among the most vulnerable groups.
Six specific Objectives have been defined: 1)To monitor and evaluate CBVCT services in Europe; 2) To identify determinants for HIV test seeking behaviour and sexual risk behaviour among MSM in Europe; 3) To describe and improve approaches of linkage to health services for HIV/STI among MSM in Europe; 4) To improve the implementation of CBVCT services specifically addressed to MSM in Europe; 5) To describe HIV testing patterns and identify barriers to testing and care among migrant populations in Europe; 6) To assess acceptability and feasibility of innovative strategies and interventions aimed at increasing HIV counselling and testing.
