The main objective of METEOR is three-fold. First, we will enhance knowledge on the determinants of job retention, as well as on the already successfully implemented interventions and retention policies from literature. Second, we will identify and analyse the main determinants related to retention across the 8 participating hospitals in 4 European countries (Belgium, The Netherlands, Poland, and Italy). Third, we will develop policy recommendations through continuous stakeholder engagement. The knowledge acquired through these steps will be iteratively integrated into an accessible and searchable online toolbox.
Activities: (1) Conduct two systematic reviews, one on the determinants of job retention and one on retention interventions; (2) Conduct a document analysis of micro-level policy documents on retention in the 8 hospitals; (3) Develop a questionnaire to assess job retention in the 8 hospitals; (4) Apply the developed questionnaire to collect and analyse data on the main determinants related to job retention in a representative sample of healthcare workers; (4) Organize workshops with key stakeholders to develop policy recommendations; (5) Develop an online toolbox.
Persons benefiting from the project: We will undoubtedly have an impact on the target stakeholders in the participating hospitals (e.g. 930 physicians and 1300 nurses in the Local Health Facility of Agrigento), but we will potentially also affect stakeholders in the consortium countries and beyond.
Expected results: (1) Increase knowledge on retention determinants, interventions and policies; (2) Develop policy recommendations with key stakeholders; (4) Communicate and disseminate our knowledge through an online toolbox.

Individuals with chronic diseases and mental disorders often experience work-related problems, such as unemployment, absenteeism, reduced productivity and stigmatization in the workplace, leading to negative consequences at individual, national and European level. The rising prevalence of chronic diseases and mental disorders as well as the current economic crisis make this issue even more problematic, requiring action in terms of innovative strategies to improve the participation of these persons in the labor market. Unfortunately, this is hindered by a lack of knowledge of which strategies are available in the different European countries and their effectiveness, and a lack of clarity regarding the employment-related needs of these individuals, leading to gaps between what is offered and what is needed. Therefore, PATHWAYS aims a) to identify integration and re-integration strategies that are available in Europe and beyond, b) to determine their effectiveness, c) to assess the specific employment-related needs of persons with chronic diseases and mental disorders and d) to develop guidelines supporting the implementation of effective professional integration and reintegration strategies. Involvement in PATHWAYS of 12 partners with vast expertise in the area of chronic and mental conditions and employment from 10 different European countries allows to compare strategies between different European regions, taking into account cultural, social, and political differences. Stakeholder consultations, including advocacy organizations, employers, policy makers, international organizations, and European Union delegates, will provide useful insights as to the development and implementation of policy recommendations to improve their integration or reintegration into the workplace. In this way, PATHWAYS will provide the first steps to work towards a more inclusive labor market in which persons with chronic diseases and mental disorders can meaningfully participate.


Mig-HealthCare will produce a roadmap to effective community based care models to improve physical and mental health care services, support the inclusion and participation of migrants and refugees in European communities and reduce health inequalities. Through the roadmap Mig-HealthCare will test implementation feasibility of community based care models in different settings and countries through pilot testing and assessment. Mig-HealthCare responds to all the current Work Program priorities and especially to the ones regarding the creation of innovative, efficient and sustainable health systems and facilitating access to better and safer healthcare services. Mig-HealthCare implements a participatory approach and recognizes differences between refugee/migrant groups and MS. The roadmap and toolbox will include guidelines and tools using ICT technology to reorient health care services to a community level. It will create networks of cooperation on all aspects that influence community health care including mental health and community integration characteristics. The project methodology is participatory and includes focus groups/interviews and surveys with all the target groups (vulnerable migrants/refugees, service providers, local community stakeholders), review of the current state of the art, collection and assessment of best practice, the development of an algorithm & prediction model, pilot implementation and creation of evidence based guidance and recommendations. Mig-HealthCare will: (1) Describe the current physical and mental health profile of vulnerable migrants/refugees including needs, expectations and capacities of service providers (2) Develop a comprehensive roadmap/toolbox for the implementation of community based care models including prediction models, best practice examples, algorithms and tailored made health and mental health materials (3) Pilot test and assess community care models and produce guidance and recommendations.

